Barcode Generator
Print-ready barcodes with validation, custom styling, vector/PNG/PDF export and bulk mode.
Your files never leave your device. Everything runs in your browser.
What Barcode Generator does
Barcode Generator creates print-ready 1D barcodes, QR codes and Data Matrix codes from text or numbers. It covers the formats used in retail, logistics and inventory work — Code 128, EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E, Code 39, ITF and Codabar — and validates each value so the output actually scans.
The single mode gives you live preview and full control over bar width, height, margins, colours, text and export scale. The bulk mode takes a list of values, one per line or uploaded as CSV or TXT, and returns a ZIP of PNGs. QR and Data Matrix extras are included for links, Wi-Fi credentials and 2D labelling.
Everything renders in your browser. Exports include PNG for quick use, SVG for infinitely sharp print work, and PDF for label sheets.
How to use Barcode Generator
- Choose the Single tab, pick a format such as Code 128 or EAN-13, and type or paste the value.
- Watch the validation message: EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A and UPC-E check digits are validated and filled in automatically when missing.
- Adjust bar width, height, margin, foreground and background colours, export scale and text options until the preview looks right. Human-readable text sits below the bars by default.
- Use Copy image for quick pasting, or Download PNG, Download SVG or Download PDF for files.
- For many codes, switch to the Bulk tab, paste one value per line or upload a CSV/TXT file, leave First row is a header ticked for CSV exports, and click Generate bulk.
- Download the ZIP of PNGs and test a few codes with your scanner before printing the whole run.
Features
- Retail and logistics formats: Code 128, EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E, Code 39, ITF and Codabar, plus QR Code and Data Matrix extras.
- Value validation with automatic check-digit handling and format-specific hints when something is wrong.
- Full styling: bar width and height, quiet-zone margin, colours, label font size, text above or below the bars.
- Vector SVG export for print, high-resolution PNG up to 6× scale, and PDF output.
- Bulk mode that accepts pasted lists or CSV/TXT uploads and returns a ZIP of individual PNG files.
- 2D options for QR (links, Wi-Fi strings, text) and Data Matrix, with sensible length limits shown when exceeded.
Tips and common mistakes
- Leave an adequate quiet-zone margin around the bars — scanners need that whitespace, and a margin of 2 or more is a safe default.
- Choose a high contrast colour pair; dark bars on light background scan reliably, while light-on-dark usually does not.
- For bulk jobs, keep values in a spreadsheet column, export as CSV, and preview a couple of codes from the ZIP before printing them all.
Frequently asked questions
Which barcode format should I use?
Code 128 is the best general-purpose choice: it is compact, supports full ASCII and is widely scannable. Use EAN-13 or UPC-A for retail products that need registered numbers, Code 39 when a system demands it, and QR or Data Matrix when you need to fit a lot of data in a small square.
Why does it say my EAN-13 value is invalid?
EAN-13 needs 12 or 13 digits, and the final digit is a check digit calculated from the others. The generator validates it and fills it in when you leave it out. Letters or the wrong number of digits are rejected so you do not print an unscannable code.
Which export is best for printing?
SVG, because it stays sharp at any size and can be placed directly in layout software. If you need a raster file, use PNG at a high scale — 3× or more. Test the result with a real scanner before a large print run.
Are there length limits?
Yes. QR codes hold about 2,900 bytes, Data Matrix about 1,500 bytes, Code 128 up to 80 characters, and ITF accepts an even number of digits up to 40. The tool warns you when a value exceeds the format's capacity.
Is my data sent anywhere when generating a barcode?
No. The barcode and PDF libraries load from a content network on first use, but the values you type are rendered locally in your browser and never uploaded.
