SVG ↔ PNG

Convert SVG to raster at any size, or genuinely vectorise raster images into SVG.

Runs in your browser. Some processing engines (e.g. ffmpeg.wasm) download on first use — your files never leave this device.

What SVG ↔ PNG does

SVG ↔ PNG converts vector SVGs into raster images at any size, and turns raster images into SVG files through colour tracing. The first direction is precise and lossless-by-design: choose dimensions, background and format, and the SVG is rendered exactly. The second direction does its best to approximate — tracing is ideal for flat logos, icons and line art, not photographs.

SVG input is sanitised before rendering: scripts, event handlers and external references are removed, while embedded data URLs and internal CSS are kept. That makes it safe to rasterise SVG files from emails or downloads you were not expecting.

Tracing runs in a worker with controls for colour count, threshold, detail, smoothing, noise removal and corner rounding, and a comparison slider helps you judge the result against the original.

How to use SVG ↔ PNG

  1. To rasterise, open the SVG → PNG tab, drop or paste an SVG file, set the output width and height (16 to 8192 pixels), and choose PNG, JPEG or WebP.
  2. Adjust transparency — keep the transparent background or fill it with a colour — pick a scale multiplier if you want a quick 2×, 4× or 8× export, and optionally minify the SVG output.
  3. Click Download raster, or use Download SVG / Copy SVG code if you want the cleaned-up, minified SVG itself.
  4. To vectorise, open the Raster → SVG tab and drop a raster image (PNG, JPG, WebP or GIF).
  5. Choose a tracing mode: Colour for logos, B&W or Outline for line art, or Embed raster if you just need the image wrapped in an SVG container.
  6. Fine-tune colours, threshold, detail, smoothing, noise and corner settings, click Convert, compare the result with the slider and download the SVG.

Tips and common mistakes

Frequently asked questions

Is the traced SVG a true vector of my image?

For flat artwork, close. Tracing approximates shapes with vector paths, which works well for logos, icons and line drawings, but photographs and gradients become thousands of shapes rather than a faithful vector replica. Embed raster mode does not vectorise at all — it simply wraps the bitmap in an SVG.

Why does my SVG look different after conversion?

Some SVG files depend on external fonts, remote images or scripts. Sanitisation removes external references for safety, and the rendering browser may substitute fonts. Check the result and, for text-heavy SVGs, consider converting text to paths in your design tool first.

Is it safe to convert SVG files from untrusted sources?

The converter sanitises the file before rendering by removing scripts, event handlers and external references. That covers the common attack surface, but as with any file from an unknown source, prefer not to open what you do not need.

What settings work best for logo tracing?

Use Colour mode, start with 8 colours, and raise the detail only if edges look too angular. Smoothing helps round curves, noise removal drops stray specks in scanned artwork, and corner rounding softens sharp artefacts.

Can I output enormous PNGs?

Dimensions are clamped between 16 and 8192 pixels. SVG files without a declared size default to 512×512, which you can change before exporting.

Both conversions run in your browser. SVG files are sanitised and rendered locally, and no file is uploaded.
