What Image Grid Splitter does
Image Grid Splitter cuts a picture into a grid of tiles for Instagram carousels, profile grids, collages and printing. Equal grids take one click, while draggable dividers let you make deliberate uneven splits for designs that need them.
The Instagram carousel mode prepares tiles in the platform's 4:5 or 1:1 ratios, cropping or padding each tile to fit, and a profile-grid mock shows how the tiles will appear together on a profile. Tile size options (original cell size, 1080, 1440 or 2048 pixels) help match each platform's preferred resolution.
Every tile can be previewed, included or skipped individually, downloaded on its own or grabbed all at once as a ZIP with ordered filenames.
How to use Image Grid Splitter
- Drop an image onto the page or click the dropzone to browse.
- Pick a preset (1×2, 1×3, 2×2, 3×1, 3×2, 3×3 or 3×4) or set an exact number of Columns and Rows.
- Drag the dividers to make uneven splits, or leave Snap dividers to equal enabled for a uniform grid.
- Optionally enable Instagram carousel mode, choose the tile ratio (4:5 or 1:1) and decide whether to crop or pad with a colour. Check the profile-grid mock to see how the set will look together.
- Set the tile size and trim edges if needed, and uncheck any tiles you do not want to export.
- Click Download all as ZIP, or download individual tiles from the preview grid.

- Instagram carousel mode with 4:5 and 1:1 tile ratios, crop or pad-to-fit, and a profile-grid mockup.
- Tile size control: original cell size or fixed 1080, 1440 and 2048-pixel widths.
- Trim edges before splitting and reverse tile order for right-to-left arrangements.
- Per-tile include/exclude toggles, hover highlighting, ordered filenames and ZIP export.
Tips and common mistakes
- For the cleanest carousel, choose a source image whose composition already matches the grid — splitting usually looks better than cropping one photo into nine.
- Use 1080-pixel tiles for Instagram and the original cell size for print work.
- Check the profile-grid mock before uploading; it reveals immediately whether the split suits the 3-column profile layout.
Frequently asked questions
How do I make an Instagram carousel from one photo?
Split the image with the grid you want (3×3 is common), enable Instagram carousel mode, choose the 4:5 or 1:1 tile ratio, and download the ZIP. Upload the tiles in filename order, which the tool numbers for you.
When should I crop instead of pad?
Crop keeps photographs full-bleed and is usually best for continuous images. Pad adds background around the entire image and is better when cropping would cut off important edges — for example text near the border.
Can I split an image unevenly?
Yes — turn off equal snapping and drag the dividers wherever you like. The preview updates live so you can fine-tune each cell.
Why do my tiles have white edges?
JPEG cannot store transparency, so padded or trimmed areas become a solid colour. Choose the pad colour you want, or export PNG or WebP if the tiles need transparent areas.
Does splitting reduce quality?
Tiles are cropped from the full-resolution image, so each cell keeps the original pixel data in its area. Choose PNG for perfect quality or JPEG/WebP with a high quality setting for smaller files.
