Image Converter
Convert images between JPG, PNG, WebP, BMP, GIF, AVIF, TIFF and ICO — batch, with quality and transparency control.
Your files never leave your device. Everything runs in your browser.
What Image Converter does
Image Converter changes pictures between JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, AVIF, TIFF and ICO without sending them anywhere. It is useful when a website, printer, app or colleague insists on a specific format, or when you want a modern WebP version of an old JPEG collection.
You can convert one file or a whole batch at once. Each queued image can keep the global target format or override it individually, which makes mixed batches easy: convert everything to PNG except the photos, which go to WebP.
Formats your browser cannot encode are disabled with an (unsupported) label instead of failing halfway through, and TIFF and ICO are always available because they are encoded by the built-in worker rather than the browser.
How to use Image Converter
- Drop images onto the page, click the dropzone to browse, or paste from the clipboard. JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, AVIF, TIFF and ICO files are accepted.
- Pick the target in Convert all to, then use the per-file Convert to dropdown only for the files that need a different format.
- Adjust the quality slider (default 92) and, if the target format has no transparency, choose the colour used to flatten transparent pixels (white by default).
- Switch the preview background between Checkerboard, White, Black and Grey to check transparency before converting.
- Click Convert images and watch each file's progress, then download files individually or use Download all as ZIP.
Features
- Convert between JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, AVIF, TIFF and ICO in a single batch.
- Browser support detection: formats that cannot be encoded in your browser are greyed out with an explanation instead of failing mid-run.
- Transparency-aware conversion with a configurable flatten colour and a preview background switcher.
- Quality control for lossy formats, with a default of 92 that is visually close to the original.
- Worker-based batch processing with per-file progress, retry and remove controls.
- Side-by-side source and result previews with a compare slider.
Tips and common mistakes
- For icons and screenshots, PNG or WebP keeps sharp edges; for photos, JPEG or WebP keeps files small.
- If colours shift when converting to GIF, remember that GIF is limited to 256 colours — use PNG or WebP for gradients.
- Convert to the format you actually need rather than re-converting repeatedly; every lossy pass loses a little detail.
Frequently asked questions
Which formats can I convert to?
JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, TIFF and ICO are available everywhere, plus AVIF where your browser can encode it. Options your browser does not support are disabled and marked (unsupported), and you can still use them as source files.
Why is the background of my converted JPG white?
JPEG and BMP do not support transparency, so transparent pixels must be replaced with a solid colour. You can set that colour before converting; white is the default. PNG, WebP, GIF and TIFF keep transparency.
Does converting reduce image quality?
PNG and TIFF output is lossless. JPEG, WebP and AVIF re-encode the pixels, so the quality slider matters; the default of 92 is a good balance and can be raised for archival copies.
Can this tool convert HEIC photos from an iPhone?
No — HEIC needs a dedicated decoder. Use the HEIC to JPG tool for those files, then convert the results here if you need another format.
What happens to EXIF data such as camera settings and GPS?
Re-encoding through the browser generally drops EXIF metadata. If your goal is specifically to strip location or camera data, the EXIF Viewer & Remover gives you a verified, field-by-field report.

Files are decoded and re-encoded by your browser on your own device. Nothing is uploaded, and no copies are left behind after you close the page.
