Rotate PDF
Fix sideways scans by rotating pages 90°, 180° or 270°.
Your files never leave your device. Everything runs in your browser.
What Rotate PDF does
Rotate PDF turns sideways or upside-down pages upright and saves a corrected copy. Choose 90°, 180° or 270° clockwise, and apply the rotation to every page or only to the pages you name.
Scanners and phone-camera apps regularly produce pages rotated by a quarter turn, and mixed orientations are common when material from different sources has been merged. Rotating is faster than printing and rescanning, and it fixes only the pages that are actually wrong.
Rotation is stored as page metadata — the page's rotation value is updated — so text stays selectable and images are not re-encoded. Because nothing is rewritten inside the pages, the corrected document opens identically in every PDF reader, and the change is easy to reverse with another rotation if you pick the wrong direction. The tool works with pdf-lib entirely in your browser.
How to use Rotate PDF
- Add one PDF with the dropzone or the file picker.
- Pick the rotation: 90° clockwise, 180° or 270° clockwise.
- Leave Pages blank to rotate every page, or enter a selection such as 2, 5-7 to target specific pages.
- Click Rotate & download.
- The result card reports how many pages were rotated — download the corrected copy.
Features
- Rotations of 90°, 180° and 270° clockwise.
- Applies to all pages by default, or to a comma/range selection like 1, 4-6.
- Rotation adds to any rotation already stored on a page, so repeated quarter-turns behave predictably.
- Page display orientation is updated without re-rendering content: text remains selectable and images untouched.
- Output keeps the original name with a -rotated suffix.
- Everything runs locally with pdf-lib; nothing is uploaded.
Tips and common mistakes
- Rotate a document before adding a watermark or page numbers, so stamps are drawn in the correct orientation.
- Mixed portrait and landscape pages are normal in merged documents — check the range twice before saving a selection.
- Rotating one file produces one download; process multiple files one at a time.
- If the result is wrong, run the tool again with the opposite direction: 90° clockwise is undone by 270° clockwise because rotations simply add up.
Frequently asked questions
Does rotating alter the page content?
No. The page's rotation value is updated and any viewer uses it to display the page upright. Text, vector art and images are neither re-rendered nor re-compressed.
Which pages are rotated when I leave the range blank?
All of them. Enter a range only when selected pages need fixing, for example 1, 4-6.
Is the range syntax the same as Split PDF?
Yes — comma-separated numbers and hyphen ranges such as 1, 4-6, using the same parser.
What happens if I rotate the same page twice?
Rotations accumulate: two 90° runs equal a 180° rotation. It is a useful recovery trick if you picked the wrong direction, but normally one run on the right pages is enough.
Can I mix orientations, some pages rotated and others not?
Yes. The range box exists for exactly that: fix page 1 while leaving pages 2-10 as they are, or the other way round.
Does it work on scanned PDFs?
Yes. Scanned pages are images inside the PDF, and only the display rotation changes, so image quality is unaffected.
