Split / Extract PDF
Extract page ranges into a new PDF, or split every page into its own file.
Your files never leave your device. Everything runs in your browser.
What Split / Extract PDF does
Split / Extract PDF pulls chosen pages out of a document into a new file, or breaks the whole document into one file per page. Both modes run locally, so the pages you are working with are never uploaded.
Use it to keep the signed page of a contract, to save one chapter of a long report as a separate PDF, or to turn a batch scan into individual documents that can be filed one by one. Extraction creates a copy — your original stays exactly as it is.
The range box understands the familiar page syntax with commas and hyphens, and quietly ignores anything that falls outside the document.
How to use Split / Extract PDF
- Drop a single PDF onto the page, or click the dropzone to browse for one.
- Leave Mode on Extract the range above and type the pages you want, for example 1-3, 7, 10-12.
- Or switch Mode to Split every page to produce one PDF per page instead.
- Click Split PDF and wait for the results list.
- Download the extracted file, or use Download all after a split to save each single-page PDF.
Features
- Range extraction with comma-separated pages and ranges (1-3, 7, 10-12), sorted into document order with duplicates removed.
- Out-of-range numbers are ignored, and reversed ranges such as 9-5 are read in ascending order.
- Split-every-page mode that produces one named file per page.
- Result cards show file size and, for extraction, how many of the total pages were kept.
- Individual download buttons plus a Download all button for multi-file results.
- Output names keep the original base name, e.g. report-extracted.pdf or report-page-3.pdf.
Tips and common mistakes
- For two long halves, extract both ranges in two passes instead of splitting every page and re-merging.
- Use reversed ranges when you remember the two endpoints but not which comes first: 12-8 behaves like 8-12.
- Extraction is non-destructive: the original PDF is untouched, and the download uses a new file name.
Frequently asked questions
What range syntax can I use?
Comma-separated items where each item is a single page or a hyphen range: 1-3, 7, 10-12. Spaces and reversed endpoints (9-5) are fine. The parser collects the pages into a set, so duplicates collapse and the extracted file follows document order.
How does Split every page deliver the files?
One PDF per page, each listed as its own row with a Download button, plus a Download all button. There is no ZIP archive — the browser saves the files individually.
Can I put the extracted pages in a different order?
Not directly: an extracted file always follows the original page order. Extract the pages you need, then reorder them with Organize PDF Pages if they must appear differently.
Does extraction change page quality?
No. Pages are copied into a fresh document without re-rendering, so text stays selectable and images keep their original data.
What happens if part of my range is outside the document?
Those numbers are ignored. If nothing valid remains, the tool reports that the range contained no valid pages.
Can I split a PDF into two halves?
Yes — run extraction twice, for example 1-5 and 6-10. Two passes are better than split-every-page when you want a small number of files.
